Denver, CO – A cry for clean drinking water, students from the Colorado School of Healing Arts will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, February 20th from 12:00-4:00pm at the Holiday Chalet, a Victorian B&B (www.HolidayChalet.com) located at 1820 East Colfax in Denver.

Students will be giving ½ hour ($45.00) or whole hour ($80.00) full body Swedish massages at the Holiday Chalet. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to Engineers without Borders, a group whose mission it is to provide drinking water to countries all around the world! Funds are needed to continue the effort.

“The Holiday Chalet has a tea room where participants can enjoy our signature Tea’s and homemade scones, before or after the massage,” explains Holiday Chalet owner Crystal Sharp,” massages will take place in private guest rooms we’ve set aside specifically for this event. “

Participants will be pampered while funds are being raised to help those in need.

“Across the world we hear daily the struggle of poor countries to survive. Though as students we may not have deep pockets what we do have is a skill that can be shared – massage therapy,” shares student and event coordinator Ginger Vincent.

EWB is currently looking for a limited number of volunteers to support us during the conference next month and we hope that you will join us. We have positions open for registration, breakout session support, project presentation coaches, Denver Night on the Town group leaders (like city tour guides to various selected venues) and more. Paid Help for Haiti

Greetings, Adams Communication & Engineering Technology (ACET), Inc. has received an immediate request to provide assistance to the devastation from the recent earthquake that has befallen the nation of Haiti. We are looking for anyone interested in going to Haiti to help for a 3- 6 month period. There are no particular skills sets defined at this point, except the willingness to help wherever needed. We will be presenting folks and highlighting their unique skills and trade qualifications, so if the opportunity to help in your area exists – it will be noted and presented. As you can well imagine, any skill that you may have – can be of great help.

Typical skill sets needed:
- Carpenters
- Masons
- Electricians
- Medical Personnel
- Communications
- Builders
- Heavy Equipment Operators
- Plumbers
- Logistics
- Etc.

THIS IS NOT A VOLUNTEER REQUEST – you will be paid for the work you do. This is a temporary employment assignment that will include travel, expenses, remuneration with an understanding that housing accommodations will be very basic. All that is needed at this point is a passport or ability to obtain one ASAP.

Cyber Flight School in Lakewood on Jan 21st

The Denver Chapter of Engineers Without Borders announces the launching of its Cyber-Flight School on January 21^st, 2010 at 7PM (1900) at the Jefferson County Library located at 10200 W. 20^th Avenue (just west of Kipling) in Lakewood.

EWB Denver was recently granted permission from Google Earth to use classes in piloting its two flight simulators as fundraisers to support its water and sanitation projects in Ecuador, Togo, and Madagascar. For a $5 donation, cyber-flight students will learn the basics of flight in the very realistic 3-D cyber space of Google Earth terrain (including all of Colorado‘s mountains!) without having to worry about turbulence, head winds, fog, or other air traffic.

Laptops with WIFI (pre-loaded with Google Earth) are not required to take the class but students are encouraged to bring them along with fully-charged batteries. The class is scheduled to last about 90 minutes.

Sorry, due to recent cutbacks, in-flight/class cyber meals or beverages will not be offered but there is a café in the library just outside the meeting room. We do however allow you to bring bags on with no extra charge.

So fasten your seat belt low and tight across your waist, place your tray table in the upright and locked position, stow your carryon bag in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you, and come fly with EWB Denver and Google Earth. Experience or medical clearance is not required.

November 2009 Ecuador Trip

Denver Professional Chapter of EWB has recently returned from another trip to Ecuador. The small team arrived in Malingua Pamba on November 8, 2009. The 5 day implementation trip was a success and the team accomplished many action items.

They gave a short presentation at the last chapter meeting informing on what was accomplished, comprimises they had to make and problems that they noticed. Click here to see the trip report notes taken by project lead Joe Blair.

A Soaring Fundraiser

Jim Gusek gave a commanding demonstration on a fundraiser that will make you feel like you have been lifted off of your feet. The idea is to set up classes to teach people how to use Google Earth’s free flight simulator – the Denver Chapter has the blessing of Google Earth to do this. The simulator takes Google Earth imagery and makes it 3D. This is as close to the real thing as you can get. The short demonstration that Jim gave at the December general meeting showed taking off from the Eagle County Airport and landing with a dead engine ala “Miracle on the Hudson”. He is currently looking for volunteers to help teach this to other people and to stage “Cyber-Space Air Races”.
